Dental extractions

What is a dental extraction

Tooth removal involves having one or more teeth completely removed from your mouth. This can be performed in a single appointment or over a few sessions.

Reasons for dental extraction

Tooth removal or a dental extraction is required when a tooth is badly decayed or damaged and cannot be repaired through other treatments. Often, pain and infection in the mouth is associated with a badly decayed or damaged tooth. Other reasons include:

  • gum disease (periodontal disease)
  • a broken tooth that cannot be repaired
  • an abscess (infection) on your gums or around your teeth
  • crowded teeth

Dental extractions for children

PM Oral Surgery performs dental extractions for children too. Advantageously, dental extractions in children can be relatively easier and less painful than dental extractions performed on adults.

Dental extractions in children are often performed when the tooth is seen to become problematic in future. Common reasons for removing teeth in children, include:

  • Crooked or misshapen tooth
  • Decayed tooth
  • Trauma
  • Issues with the tooth's root

PM Oral Surgery pride themselves on excellence in dental care for adults and children alike. For more information on dental extractions, download the service flyer here.
